Scenario
Charles, a retiree, finds a new lease on life when he answers a private detective’s ad and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. Remake of Μυστικός πράκτορας (2020). Ted Danson, around 76 years old, plays Charles, a retired engineering professor living in San Francisco. He is also the producer of this series, which stands out from most others by avoiding the usual profanity-laden dialogue.
These are actually very clean and therefore more enjoyable
In the story, his wife may have died a year ago due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He is healthy, but perhaps bored with his everyday life. He enjoys reading magazines and newspapers and often cuts out an interesting copy to send to his married daughter in Sacramento. One day he sees a small, short advertisement through a cut-out hole.
Charles is supposed to be the key
One particular job requires someone between 75 and 85 years old. This leads him to be a private detective hired by a man whose mother lives in some kind of luxury nursing home in San Francisco. Valuable jewelry has been stolen and the son wants the thief caught. So he is hired to check out the place, observe and report back as the person in charge of finding out what is going on.
My wife and I enjoy streaming
Ted Danson is simply perfect in this role, which he plays with great humor. Soon everything is no longer about who the thief was, but about relationships. The cast of characters is played by a group of great actors, many of them old favorites we have known over the last 50 years. After watching the first three episodes in one night, we watched the last five episodes in one sitting after our usual steak and wine dinner on Saturday night.
One of the funniest episodes we have ever seen
The ending brings up thoughts of a sequel, I hope they make one.
